15 reasons why I became a content creator.
When I first started creating content, there was one question I was asked more often than any other:
“Why did you actually get involved in this?”
As if there were only one answer.
15 reasons why I became a content creator
The truth? There are at least fifteen of them.
1. Because I love to create
I write, take photographs, make films and come up with concepts. For me, creating content is a creative outlet.
2. Because I wanted to be my own boss
No performance reviews. No office politics. Just the freedom to decide for myself what my working day looks like. When I want to work, how I want to work, what I want to create, for how long and how much.
As an adult, I don’t want to have to ask permission to take a break or a day off on my children’s birthdays, or to do something fun with my mum – just to give a few examples.
3. Because I wanted to earn money doing something I’m good at
You often enjoy doing things you’re good at. And when you enjoy doing something, you naturally get good at it. For me, creating is more of a hobby than a job.
4. Because I was curious
I wondered whether I could build up an audience. Whether people would actually find my work interesting enough. I was ready for a new challenge and wondered if I could make my account and website a success.
5. Because I love photography
Taking a good photo is still a challenge. Lighting, composition, angle, styling… I really enjoy all of that.
6. Because I wanted to reinvent myself
After decades of working, I fancied trying something completely different. Even in my younger days, I’d always wanted to be a glamour model, but back then I didn’t have the right measurements. Now, with platforms like OnlyFans, Fansly and F2F, that doesn’t matter any more.
7. Because I love running a business
Building a website, SEO, marketing, social media, pricing strategies… it’s all part of the job.
As an entrepreneur, you also determine your own income. If you run your business well, you’ll earn more than if you do very little.
8. Because freedom is important to me
I work when I’m at my most productive. That suits me much better.
But there’s something else. My work as a content creator gives me an incredible amount of freedom. At times when others are working for their bosses, I’m spending quality time with the people I love. I’d much rather do that than stand in a shop or sit in an office – that’s a conscious choice.
Besides, who wouldn’t prefer to lie in the sun at 25 degrees? Or, in winter, cosy up at home by the warm fire to read or watch a series.
9. Because I wanted to reach people
Not just with photos, but also with blogs, ideas and stories. Writing is my passion. If my blogs can help even one person to make their dreams come true, then my mission will have been a success.
10. Because I can let my imagination run wild
Cosplay, roleplay, fetish, themes… I enjoy coming up with something new all the time. When a fan or client commissions a custom video and tells me in a few words what they’d like to see, I love writing a script for it.
And I feel proud when the end result is even better than he or she had expected.
11. Because I didn’t want to hide away any more
At one point, I thought:
Why should I be ashamed of something I enjoy doing? Or hold back because someone else might not like it as much?
As if other people always do exactly what I like or approve of.
What does it matter what other people think or do? As long as you’re not harming anyone else and it makes you happy, it shouldn’t matter how you earn your money.
12. Because I’m always learning
New software, cameras, algorithms, AI, marketing, photo locations… there’s something new to discover every day.
13. Because it’s never boring
No two days are the same. That suits me down to the ground. I never know in advance what kind of custom requests I’ll get, how a shoot will turn out, or what the fans’ reactions will be.
Just as with traditional relationships, I also apply the Three Terrible V’s at work.
Expectation. Obligation. Predictability.
If at all possible, I try to avoid them.
14. Because I like to surprise people
Whether it’s an original photo, a funny tweet, a unique custom design or a blog that takes a slightly different angle. I love content that isn’t run-of-the-mill. In every field.
15. Because it makes me happy
Perhaps that’s actually the most important reason of all. What I do makes me happy. And for me, that’s a better measure than the opinions of people who only see the outside.
What’s more, my partner thinks it’s brilliant that I’m doing this. Making him proud by creating new content time and time again really makes me happy.
15 reasons why
People often think there’s only one reason why someone becomes a content creator. Money. Attention. Or something else they’ve made up their own minds about.
But the reality is far less straightforward.
As you can see, ‘attention’ doesn’t feature on my list, whereas for another content creator this might well be one of the main reasons.
For me, freedom is more important than money, whilst another creator might well go for that villa.
Behind every creator lies a different story. This is mine.
